The 2022 Les Creisses is an inviting blend of Syrah (30%), Cabernet (30%), Grenache (25%), Mouvedre (5%), Carignan (5%) and Marselan (5%).  Each variety is hand-harvested and vinified seperately before blending and ageing in a mixture of concrete vats and oak barrels for 15 to 18 months. When white Bandol is as good as this it's difficult to see why they don't get as much attention as the Rosés. The Bastide Blanche Bandol Blanc is a terrific blend of  Clairette (58%), Ugni Blanc (22%), Bourboulenc (12%) & Rolle (8%) is packed with white peach and fresh herb characters on the nose. The complex palate is multi-layered and textured yet fresh, finishing with a distinct saline tang.  This cracking wine shows a beautiful balance of power and elegance and should be on the 'must try' list of every adventurous drinker.

This Cahors from Lionel Osmin is very typical of Malbec from Cahors - rich, full-bodied and concentrated with a wealth of blackcurrant and dark fruits, notes of clove tinged spice and mediterranean herbs.  This is a great match to a variety of dishes, especially confit duck, coq au vin and hard cheeses.

2023 Gamay, Domaine Moulin Camus, IGP Loire

Gamay

This 100% Gamay from Domaine Moulin Camus comes from grapes grown on a slope of pure mica schist which gives the wine juicy, rounded red fruits a bit of tautness and minerality.  A warmer than normal, sulphur free maceration for three days helps bring out some warmth and roundness to the fruit, making it slightly beaujolais'esque but without the bubble gum/commercial edge that one would normally find in this price range.

This Grenache Noir from Nadal Hainault is utterly delightful.  The pretty pale ruby colour hints at a wine that is light, but it's by no means a weed.  Softly textured in the mouth with bright red fruits and lovely balanced freshness on the finish. The eminently quaffable red wine is made with minimal intervention and no added sulphur.  It displays a beautiful lightness and delicacy and could easily take a bit of chilling down in the summer months.
