Description
The Jackot from Bodegas Piedra is made with the northern Italian grape variety Friulano. This delicate white has aromas of herb tinged fresh Lime on the nose and a gentle palate which has a lovely creamy texture with whiffs of oak on the finish. The hand harvested fruit is fermented at a cool 14 – 17 degrees in a mixture of stainless steel (70%) and old oak barrels (30%). Following fermentation the wine is aged on fine lees in concrete eggs for 3 months with weekly batonnage (stirring) to give the wine added texture, prior to a further 6 – 8 months in old oak prior to release.
Bodegas Piedra Negra is situated in the foothills of the Andes, at an altitude of 1,100m, on well-drained and infertile pebbly soils, mixed with volcanic moraines. It a continental semi-desert environment characterised by light frosts and high levels of sunshine. Average annual rainfall is 200mm, essentially concentrated in summer. It experiences a wide night/day temperature range (10°C at night – 40°C during the day in summer).
