Description

Massaya is run by brothers Sami and Ramzi Ghosn in partnership with Frédéric and Daniel Brunier from Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe and Dominique Hebrard, formerly from Château Cheval Blanc. Until recently Massaya’s vineyards have solely been located in the fertile Bekaa Valley, at an altitude of 1000 metres above sea level. However, over the last seven years Sami and Ramzi together with Frédéric and Daniel Brunier, have developed Massaya vineyards in the more extreme, mineral areas of the Bekaa valley, moving onto hillside sites to the North East (Ras Baalbek) and North West (Hadath Baalbek), as well as further north of Baalbek.

This wine has spicy notes with ripe, meaty, blackberry and red fruits, with a touch of chocolate.

60% Cinsault, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah

Assyrtiko

Passion and heritage has been passed down through the Bou Sleiman family for four generations. When Joseph Bou Sleiman took over the reins at Château Oumsiyat, he blended respect for local tradition with modern techniques to craft contemporary wines. A passionate vine grower, Joseph also built a modern winery in the village of Mtein, where he creates wines that are a fusion of old world and new world . The grapes are grown in the 78 hectare vineyard, situated at over 1,000 metres elevation in the beautiful Bekaa Valley, between Mount Lebanon to the west and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains to the east.

2017 Chateau Musar.JPG

2017 Chateau Musar, Bekaa Valley

Red Blend

The 2017 Chateau Musar is a typically complex red in the Musar style, although perhaps more approachable in its youth than previous vintages.  Red cherry, plum and dark berry fruits dominate the nose along with leather, tobacco and spice.  Although relatively approachable now, this wine will hugely benefit from further ageing and will develop in complexity for at least a couple of decades from vintage.

Chateau Musar 1998.JPG

1998 Chateau Musar, Bekaa Valley

Cabernet Sauvignon

The 1998 Musar Red is an elegant and fragrant Cinsault dominated vintage, mainly due to the cooler conditions. It shows wonderfully developed gamey aromas, is well structured and  has a vein of finely poised acidity running through it.  Medium bodied with great length.  The vintage was, by Lebanese standards, cold, with rainy weather that lasted until June (resulting in late flowering), leading to a summer that was sunny and dry.

2020 Jeune Rouge, Chateau Musar, Bekaa Valley

Red Blend

This wine is deep purple in colour with aromas of cherry, ripe berry fruits and violet notes on the nose. On the palate it is unoaked wine, wonderfully fresh and full of ripe blueberry fruit. Good acidity keeps the wine vibrant within a medium to full bodied textured palate.
