Description

Bouchon are 4th generation viticultutralists situated in the Maule Valley. Current incumbent Julio Bouchon and his children carry on the family tradition of creating distinctive, terroir-driven wines. The Block Series wines are a relatively new release and are made with dry farmed old vines planted on ancient Granite Soils.

This wonderfully characterful wine is a pale yellow colour, with the nose revealing notes of ripe lemon and orange peel. There’s a distinct minerality on the palate, silky texture, and a very long finish characterised by thirst quenching acidity. This is starting to show nicely after a couple of years in bottle, but will continue to develop over the next couple of years.

2021 Carte d’Or, Baumard, AC Coteaux du Layon, Half Bottle

Chenin Blanc

The Carte d'Or Coteaux du Layon from Baumard has a very attractive honeyed nose, with lifted yellow fruits and more golden tropical elements such as mango, guava and pineapple. It has a particularly tropical character and a very fresh feel on the palate, with steely minerality and a zippy background acidity giving invigorating tartness to keep the wine luscious and buoyant. The rounded, approachable finish has good length.

2020/22 S.R.S. Chardonnay, Flametree, Margaret River

Chardonnay

The Flametree SRS (Sub-Regional-Series) Chardonnay reveals classic grapefruit, white peach and dried pear fruits. This gives way to barrel ferment and sulphide complexities, providing a lovely savoury oyster shell/saline character and adding to the wines complexity and overall purity.

Mont Sur Rolle Grand Cru.JPG

2021/22 Mont-Sur-Rolle Grand Cru, Maison Blanche, AOC La Cote

Chasselas

This is a delicious, more'ish white made mainly from Chasselas, the grape variety which is typical to the Canton of Vaud. Yves and Antoine de Mestral like to play around with it, making wine several different styles, of which this was our favourite.  Quite classic in style for Chasselas with a lovely balance of the creamy, fruity, floral and mineral palate. Rich and complex, this is a perfect wine to sip on its own, enjoy with fish and seafood.
