Description

The Moorooduc Pinot Gris On Skins is an intriguing ‘orange wine’ that spends 20 days fermenting on skins. As a result has a wonedrful watermelon pink in colour, with pink rose petals, violets, fennel and hints of pickled ginger, rhubarb and red plums on the nose. Tangy red berries and Moroccan spice on the palate, with a finish that is fresh and crunchy with just the right amount of tannin to clean the palate.  Certainly not everyone’s cup of tea but an intriguing wine and something a little different from the Mornington Peninsular.

Established in 1982 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc is a small, family run wine business that has built an enviable reputation for complex and food friendly wines.

The philosophy here is to use top quality fruit that is produced by intensive, hands on work in the vineyard and minimal use of chemicals. The wines are then fermented using wild yeasts and minimal intervention to allow them to express the character of their individual sites. Moorooduc is rightly regarded as one of the leading lights in Mornington and one of the finest Pinot Noir producers in Australia.

2022 Scheid District 7 Chardonnay, Monterey, California

Chardonnay

Superb value, the Scheid District 7 Chardonnay comes from a vineyard at Greenfeld where the morning fog lingers to protect the vines from the heat of the sun. The aromas are fresh and extroverted with notes of yellow apple, pear and citrus, enhanced by hints of coconut, vanilla and toasty oak. The medium-bodied palate is soft and balanced with bright fruit, hints of butter and a lingering subtle oak finish.

The Flametree Chardonnay is beautifully balanced, displaying power and elegance in equal measure, plenty of vibrant citrus and stone fruit flavours and supportive oak courtesy of 9 months barrel ageing.  This is delicious now but will continue to develop for a couple of years.

Sauvignon Blanc

Domaine de la Bretonniere have been making wine in the Loire for generations.  With an utmost respect for the environment and meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard they are able to produce vibrant, crisp wines with lovely pure fruit and crisp, balanced acidity.  The Cap A l'Ouest Sauvignon is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris and has a bright, pale yellow appearance with golden reflections. The intense bouquet of flowers and lychee follow through to the generous palate that manages to be powerful and fruit-forward whilst retaining freshness and zip with long lasting acidity.
