The Tohu Awatere Pinot Noir is beautifully aromatic on the nose with layers of red fruit and spicy florals and underlying hints of crushed herbs. The silky palate shows bright cherry, red berries and finely integrated French oak. Medium bodied and well-balanced with refined smooth tannins leading to a long and elegant finish.

2022 Baramban, Bodegas Alto Monayo, D.O. Campo de Borja

Red Blend

The Baramban from Bodegas Alto Moncayo is a sumptuous blend of 50% Garnacha and 50% Tempranillo grown at 550 metres above sea level. The complex nose shows abundant blackberry, currrant and violet aromas, leading to full yet silky palate of layered blackberry, plum and cherry fruit mingling with more floral notes, spice and subtle oak.  The long silky finish is beautifully balanced and hides the 15% abv with aplomb.  This beautiful wine is fermented in open top tanks and spends 7 months in a mixture of French and American oak.

2022 Barbaresco, Produttori del Barbaresco, DOCG

Nebbiolo

Barbaresco DOCG is produced every year from the 100 hectares of vineyards controlled by the Produttori within the appellation, mainly in the Barbaresco village itself. In the best vintages, when the quality of the grapes is great everywhere, the historical crus are vinified separately and Barbaresco is then produced with the grapes from the remaining vineyards.

The Bourgogne Pinot Noir Epineuil from Domaine Fournillon is a beautifully fresh Pinot with bright, red fruit flavours and supple tannins. This delightful red wine comes from parcels of vines in the village of Epineuil, with the majority of Pinot Noir grapes are harvested mechanically for efficiency so they can be transported to the estate for maceration in stainless steel tank for a period of 2 weeks, with regular punch downs. After separating the skins from the juice it is aged in stainless steel tanks for a minimum of 15 months.

The Volpaia Chianti Classico shows wodnerful purity of fruit and is a very elegant, balanced wine.  The complex nose shows fresh cherry and strawberry fruit with typically earthy nose and whiffs of spice.  The palate is open with elegant, silky fruit and herbal notes mingling with a delicate floral character and perfectly poised tannins. The Clos le Comte is a tiny, organically farmed vineyard that produces wonderfully elegant Sauternes.  The grapes are harvested after several passages through the vineyard ensuring that only the very ripest grapes are selected.  Wonderfully ripe, concentrated and complex fruit aromas. The rich bouquet shows notes of dried fruits, almonds, apricots, fresh citrus and peach blossom. Well structured on the palate with a viscous density resulting from the high levels of botrytis. Beautiful acidity gives excellent lively freshness to the spicy notes on the long finish.

Viognier

The La Combe Pilate Viognier is a terrific example of the grape variety.  Delicate with notes of bergamot and flint stone. Very fresh on entry, dominated by the typical Viognier aromas. On the mid-palate, there is good balance between the acidic tension associated with its terroir of origin and the natural full body of the varietal and its ageing. The finish is savoury, bringing out the rustic and mineral overtones.

The Corryton Burge Shiraz is a rich, soft and subtle Australian Shiraz showing deep ruby red with purple hues.  The nose has plenty of strawberry, raspberry and vanilla aromas. Richly fruited on the palate with forward characters of raspberry and plum alongside a soft toasty oak influence that enhances the vanilla and spice. Subtle tannins leave the palate quite moreish and a delight to keep coming back to.

The Cotes Du Rhone Rouge 'Cuvee Bonheur' from  Dom. La Loyanne is a typical Rhone blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah and shows complex dark fruits with garrigue notes on the nose along side the odd whiff of violets.  The delicious and more'ish palate is rich and concentrated showing great depth and elegance through to the balanced finish.  Like all the wines from Loyanne, this is such as joy to drink and provides superb value for money.

2022 Cremant de Bourgogne Brut, Domaine Fournillon

Pinot Noir

Fournillon have 23 hectares of vines in Chablis in the cool, north of burgundy and are predominantly producers of classic, steely Chablis (see our fantastic value 'house' Chablis), but they also produce some red and this delicious cremant from 100% Pinot Noir.  All fruit is hand-harvested and vinified carefully to produce an easy drinking, fruit-forward fizz that is well balanced and nicely rounded with a fine mousse.  Excellent as an apertif.

The Defesa Tinto is an inviting blend of Touriga Nacional and Syrah coming from young'ish vines planted on Granite and Schist soils.  The wine is open and immediately enjoyable with a mass of spice-tinged, black fruit aromas which follow on to a rounded, fruit filled palate that is rich and creamy.  The well balanced finish is softly textured, supple and long.
