2022 ‘Les Chirats’ Syrah/Viognier, Aurelien Chirat, VDF

Syrah Blend

The Les Chirats Syrah/Viognier is a wonderfully floral and elegant blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier from vineyards around Saint Joseph.  The practice of adding a small proportion of Viognier to Syrah is common in Cote Rotie and helps to add softness and aromatics to the Syrah from this part of the Northern Rhone.  This wonderfully friendly and approachable red wine is fermented on Condrieu lees which gives the wine even more aromatics. Enticing blue and black fruits on the nose are joined on the palate by more savoury leathery notes and hints of peppery spice.  The mineral-tinged finish is finely poised showing evidence of the granite soils.

2022 Combe Pilate Viognier, Chapoutier, Collines Rhodaniennes

Viognier

The La Combe Pilate Viognier is a terrific example of the grape variety.  Delicate with notes of bergamot and flint stone. Very fresh on entry, dominated by the typical Viognier aromas. On the mid-palate, there is good balance between the acidic tension associated with its terroir of origin and the natural full body of the varietal and its ageing. The finish is savoury, bringing out the rustic and mineral overtones.

2022 Gonzo Combat Rouge, Vandal Wine Company

Red Blend

The Gonzo Combat Rouge is a rather unusual field blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Viognier which are co-fermented with whole bunch fermentation.  The results is a beautifully supple yet plush and ripe red wine with sweet, spicy raspberry and cherry fruit. We've found it drinks best slightly chilled on a warm evening.

White Blend

The Heirloom White is yet another truly delicious South African blend based on Chenin Blanc.  We are massive fans of these wines here at DWC and would love everyone to get behind them.  45% Chenin Blanc, 40% Grenache Blanc and 15% Viognier, this complex wine shows dried tropical fruits, fresh stone fruit and citrus notes on the the palate.  The richly textured mouthfeel integrates elegant oak and lifting acidity through to the long lingering finish.

2023/24 Lo & Behold Chenin/Viognier, WO Swartland

Chenin Blanc Blend

The Lo & Behold white is very grown up for such a humble price tag.  Made from 90% Chenin Blanc, 10% of which is aged in french oak, the remainder naturally fermented in stainless steel, plus 10% Viognier that is fermented in cement tanks.  The wine is blended before bottling, resulting in a fresh and vibrant wine with citrus and pear fruit alongside more tropical notes.  The finish is long and balanced and leaves one wanting more!

White Blend

The Goldmine White is the long awaited partner to The Chocolate Block, Boekenhoutskloof iconic red wine.  The blend of Swartland Chenin along with Chardonnay, Semillon and Viognier from other regions in the Cape fermented in a mixture of french oak, concrete eggs and clay amphora.  This lovely, textured white shows plenty of stony/savoury notes with herbal aromas and rich yet clean pear and citrus fruit.

Viognier

The Wolftrap White has a nose that is bold, intense, and rich with stone fruit aromas of peach, nectarine and yellow plum as well as gentle whiffs of angelica, spice, and fresh ginger. 2025 Entre les Vents Cotes du Rhone Blanc ‘Les Franciones’

White Blend

The Entre les Vents Cotes du Rhone Blanc is a wonderfully expressive white wine showing a richly layered nose. The palate is fresh and fruit-driven, with flavours of peach, lemon and apricot, while subtle woody nuances and a refined minerality emerge on the finish, adding depth and elegance.  Made with mostly Grenache Blanc with Marsanne and Viognier in supporting roles, this lovely new addition to our list is a great aperitif but would match grilled fish and white meat dishes with creamy sauces.
