The Hartenberg  Riesling is planted on clay-rich soils and harvested entirely by hand. With 25% of the grapes showing signs of Botrytis at harvest time, this wine boasts stone fruit aromas, honeyed petrol notes, lanolin and a vibrant acidity. The bouquet displays beautiful elements of chalky,flint and minerally notes.The wine is juicy and opulent on palate entry and then a fine acidity arrives to provide a perfect foil to the inherent fruit “sweetness”. The expressive wines of Matawhero in Gisborne are dry farmed and produced by a passionate team whose love of wine, and the land in which their grapes are grown, is evident in every bottle.  This subtle and elegant Sauvignon has the kiwi hallmarks of herbaceous tropical fruit and passion fruit with beautifully balanced acidity and some decent weight.  The finish is fresh, balanced and long, giving a more restrained style than the Sauvignons that come from Marlborough.
