We are massive fans of the wonderful Priorat red wines from Marco Abella.  The Clos Abella is particularly impressive with a strikingly perfumed bouquet, encompassing a myriad of red and dark fruits, fresh flowers, oak spices and liquorice. The complex palate shows black cherry, minerals, spice and chocolate and manages to be both subtle yet dense and harmonious with silky tannins, good balance, and a long, fresh finish.

There’s no hiding the class of this little gem from Maury, a commune that sits at the foot of the Pyrenees.  It’s a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Carignan from vines of up to 45 years old and shows plenty of rounded fruit, a balanced spicy backbone with underlying minerality and impeccable finish.

2021 Garnacha, Clos de Lom, DO Valencia

The Clos de Lom Garnacha vineyards sit at 700m above sea level and are planted on stony soils, making the vine work hard to find water and nutrition.  The wine itself is wonderfully deeply coloured in the glass which leads to a rich, complex nose of dark fruits, redcurrants and blueberry jam alongside balsamic and herbal notes.  Rich, full and meaty on the palate yet not overbearing given the high alcohol level.  Silky and fresh with ripe, well-integrated tannins, this is a lovely wine to drink in its opulent youth yet will cellar for a good few years from vintage.

2021 La Garnacha Olvidada de Aragon, D.O Catalayud

This fabulously full Grenache comes from high altitude south facing vineyards (850m) and is a wonderful example of the grape.  Hearty and full, juicy and plump, the wine wears its high alcohol with surprising ease, resulting in a more'ish, fruit led Garnacha that is immediately appealing.  Ageing on lees in concrete for 6 months prior to bottling and release.  The nose shows both dark and red fruits which carry through to the palate and are joined by touches of silky mocha and chocolate.  The gentle tannins carry the wine on the long, balanced finish.
