Description

The Salt River Sauvignon Blanc takes it’s name from the trendy district of Cape Town that Savage Wines calls home.  Made from a 35 year old parcel of Stellenbosch vines, this terrific wine is complex, linear and bursting with citrus, grapefruit and elderflower notes. Precise and finishing with a thirst-quenching saline burst, the Salt River Sauvignon Blanc is delicious on release but will also age gracefully for a few years.

Duncan Savage is the most awarded winemaker in South Africa for the Sauvignon Blanc (and Semillon) variety, regarded by his peers as the best there is with the grape. (Even Eben Sadie shares this view).  Having trained under the Loire Valley legend, Didier Dagueneau, who took Pouilly-Fume to new heights, he returned to South Africa and honed his techniques at Cape Point, for whom he made numerous Platter 5-star wines. He left in 2016 to concentrate on his own range, Savage Wines. They are now one of the most sought after wines in South Africa.

Chardonnay

The Hanewald-Schwerdt Chardonnay reveals citrus & stone fruits with nuances of melons and herbs. Silky, lively with nice acidity. There is the merest whiff of old oak to this wine which is used purely to some softness to the mouthfeel.  This is very appealing and an extremely enjoyable take on Chardonnay.
