Description

Classic Moulin, with violets and rich dark fruit on the nose. On the palate, plenty of crunchy brambly fruit, excellent structure and a hint of spice. Good with game and red meats.

This wine is made from grapes from a number of sites, with vines aged on average 45 years. The terroir is composed mainly of pink granite called “Ghorra”. Exposition is generally South-Southeast at an average altitude of around 250 metres. Yields are restricted to 50hl/hA. Vinification is conventional with a maceration of 10 to 12 days with 6 months in large oak foudres after fermentation is complete.

The Domaine du Granit is located 60 km from Lyon, the terroir is mainly granitic soils with quartzite pebbles. Most of the vines are south-east to east facing and grow at an altitude of 230-280m above sea level.

Frank knows that Gamay when left uncontrolled can produce high yields and uninteresting wines so he puts great emphasis on controlling the vigour of his vines, they are on average over 50 years old these two things help to keep yields down.

They harvest manually with the pickers making a first selection on the vine, with a further selection on the sorting table so only the best grapes make it into the cuvée.

The wines are aged from 7 to 22 months in oak barrels, oak barrels and cement vats. The pressing is carried out on a pneumatic press and the fermentation temperatures are controlled.

Gaja's Brunello di Montalcino shows notes of juniper berries, liquorice and sweet wood on the nose. It has a very clear expression of sweet and ripe fruit, opening on the palate, with notes of spice and earthy aromatic herbs. This wine has remarkable texture, mouth-filling fruit and a very good length.
