2019 Beaujolais Villages ‘Or Rouge’, Domaine Cheveau
Gamay
Domaine Michel Cheveau is a 14 hectare family estate run by Nicolas Cheveau, his brother Julien and wife Aurelie. The family cellars are on the outskirts of the village of Fuissé, being built only five years ago as a result of the family house getting too cramped. The vineyards are worked by hand, by horse and by tractor, and without the use of any agrochemicals. Cheveau is one of the few vignerons who do not fertilize either, choosing to use sward management to stop soil erosion and keep a balance of nutrients in the soil. His vineyards can always be recognised for being meticulously looked after, but fizzing with life.

Out of Stock2020 Morgon Cote de Py, Domaine Grange Cochard
Gamay
The Morgon Cote de Py is a wonderful example of hand crafted Cru Beaujolais from the prestigious Cote de Py plateau. Made with organically grown, hand harvested grapes from a mixture of Granite and blue stone soils, the wine is made in the traditional semi-carbonic method with 2/3rds of the bunches being de-stemmed and 1/3rd left whole. The wine is matured in a mixture of cask and old barrels and bottled with minimal sulphur without fining. The result is a wonderfully complex wine that is expressive yet elegant and finely balanced. Dark fruits and kirsch like characters mingle with dried herbs, liquorice and mineral undertones along with finely poised acidity which helps the wine remain focussed. Delicious in it's youth, the Cote de Py also shows great ageing potential in the medium term and will continue to develop in complexity.

Red Blend
Due south of Cheverny, Valencay is best known for it's pyramid shaped Goats Cheese rather than wine, but that don't let that put you off exploring the vinous offerings of this pretty part of the Loire valley. This wonderful, naturally produced red is vibrant, fresh and full of vitality. Made from a blend of Gamay (35%), Cot/Malbec (35%) and Pinot Noir (30%), the wine is fermented with natural yeasts and aged on it's lees for 16 months in older neutral barrels. Delicate and very pretty, with succulent blackcurrant, raspberry and whiffs of spice flowing from nose to palate, this wine is utterly delightful and reflective of the varied flint, clay and silex soils in which the vines are planted.
