Description

This fabulous Monastrell is made from dry farmed bush vines with an average age of over 30 years old.  Hand harvested and fermented in concrete vats, the processes at this historic winery have barely changed in hundreds of years.  Pure, fresh and wonderfully approachable, this is so easy going with a juicy, plump mid-palate with rounded berry fruits including blackberry and blueberry with floral notes. A delicious glass of wine that keeps you coming back for more.

Casa Los Frailes is one of Spain’s first certified organic producers, gaining certification in 2002.  This altitudinous farm (650-700m) in the Terres de Alforins has been in the hands of the Velázquez family since 1771. Vines have been grown here since the 13th century with bushvine Monastrell the mainstay to this day. Casa los Frailes has particularly old plots, dry farmed and more than 75-years-old. Yields are very low and quality is very high. Longstanding traditions persist in the cellar too, with old clay amphorae and concrete tanks built by the Jesuits in the 17th & 18th centuries still in use.

Bordeaux Blend

The 2011 vintage had a hard act to follow coming after two exceptional years in Bordeaux and whilst the wines aren't as showy as the '09's and '10's they are charming and drinking beautifully with a decade in bottle.

The aromas are rich and inviting with juicy blackberry, violet, and anise lending layered complexity. The mid-palate is full and plummy with a touch of toasted oak. This structured yet smooth wine finishes with hints of cola and vanilla.

Saransot Dupre Bordeaux Rouge Magnum.JPG

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness.  Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'.  High praise indeed!

Un Bon Canon Cotes du Rhone Rouge.JPG

2024 Cotes Du Rhone, Un Bon Canon

Rhone Blend

The Un Bon Canon Cotes du Rhone hits the spot every time with it's fruit forward blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 5% Mouvedre which is fermented in concrete tanks.  The vineyards lie in the southern part of the region on a dried up river bed strewn with heat retaining pebbles.  The hot summer sun ensures that the wine is bold and fruity with raspberry and dark fruits and hints of garrigue/herbal undergrowth.
