Description

The Butussi Ribolla Gialla is a delicious, medium bodied, dry white wine from Friuli in north-eastern Italy.  Supremely elegant and delicately floral on the nose, the palate shows crisp citrus and peach fruit that mingles with fresh almonds.  The well-balanced finish is superbly clean and fresh.  Elegant, harmonious and a terrific wine to pair with shellfish.

The grapes for this fabulous wine are hand-harvested at optimum ripeness, destemmed and gently crushed before resting on their skins for 12-16 hours, promoting the natural aromatics and helping give structure to the finished wine.  Fermentation lasts 14 days at a cool temperature and the wine is then aged in concrete for 8 months prior to release, with minimul sulphur additions.

Fournillon have 23 hectares of vines in Chablis in the cool, north of burgundy and are predominantly producers of classic, steely Chablis (see our fantastic value 'house' Chablis), but they also produce some red and this delicious cremant from 100% Pinot Noir.  All fruit is hand-harvested and vinified carefully to produce an easy drinking, fruit-forward fizz that is well balanced and nicely rounded with a fine mousse.  Excellent as an apertif.

Chardonnay

Chenin Blanc

The Carte d'Or Coteaux du Layon from Baumard has a very attractive honeyed nose, with lifted yellow fruits and more golden tropical elements such as mango, guava and pineapple. It has a particularly tropical character and a very fresh feel on the palate, with steely minerality and a zippy background acidity giving invigorating tartness to keep the wine luscious and buoyant. The rounded, approachable finish has good length.
