2022 Winding Wood Extra Brut, West Berkshire

Champagne Blend

The Winding Wood Extra Brut is a blend of 48% Chardonnay and 52% Pinot Noir grown organically on the flint and chalk slopes of west Berkshire.  The grapes are hand-harvested and handed over to Daniel Ham at Offbeat Wines for the winemaking. Whole bunch pressed with a second fermentation in bottle and ageing for 27 months on lees prior to disgorging and 6 months on cork.    This terrific English Sparkling wine is complex with an inviting nose of fresh apple, stone fruit and freshly baked bread.  The palate is perky and fresh with hedgerow, citrus and floral notes that are backed up by toastiness and a fine streak of acidity running from start to finish.

NV Voulez Vous Couche Avec Moi? Vincent Couche

Chardonnay

Vincent Couche is a biodynamic grape grower in Champagne who also owns some vines in Burgundy, where he makes this de-classified Cremantde Bourgogne.  Taking a 'Grower Chamagne' approach to cremant, 30% of the grapes are oak fermented and aged in a solera so do not conform to the regulations of Cremant.  Who cares when the wine is this good!  Vibrant and amazingly drinkable, this zesty, complex and downright drinkable fizz is true real delight, showing zesty mineral tinged citrus, baked apple and whiffs of brioche.  No added sulphur makes it all the more appealing.
