To finish, it is velvety and smooth with lemon meringue as well as an oiliness and a saltiness that you’d expect from a Campbeltown dram.

The 14 Year Old Tomatin is aged in Bourbon casks before finishing for a year in port pipes. There's lots of fruit and richness on the nose with red berries and vanilla coming through. The palate is complex with rich bread and butter pudding, cinnamon spice and lighter notes of peach, mango and plum coming through as well. The long finish is smooth and nicely spiced without being too rich.

The finish really brings the peat to the fore along with hints of gooseberries.

This is one of the earlier releases from Lochlea and we are excited to see what the future holds for them.

This is the first cask strength release from the family-owned Lochlea distillery. Using locally grown ingredients the whisky is distilled and aged on site in a mixture of 1st Fill Bourbon Barrels and 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts. It goes without saying that the whisky is non-chill filtered and the colour is natural. The nose shows a complex mixture of fruit, cigar notes and roasted coffee beans which leads to a palate that is nicely fruited with hints of brazil nuts. The finish is rich and oaky.

We think that the Second Crop Fallow Edition from Lochlea looks almost too good to drink! This beautiful, almost mahogany coloured whisky is matured in a mixture of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez casks which not only contribute to the amazing colour but add complex Manuka honey and Golden Syrup characters on the nose. The palate is equally complex being layered with fresh ground coffee, sweet ginger spice and an underlying nuttiness. The Second Crop Fallow Edition is a fabulous addition to the wonderful whiskies of Lochlea that we already stock. Sadly production is limited to only 11,000 bottles worldwide so grab some while you can!

The colour is a very light amber with slight olive highlights. On the nose it is very creamy, vanilla custard. The smoke develops gradually, like a slow burning log fire, never overpowering but always reassuring. A guest taster was reminded of marshmallows toasted on a campfire, crisp on the outside and sticky sweet in the middle!The palate is incredibly well balanced, rich and creamy with a slight medicinal hint. The smoke is always present, washing over the palate in waves, like the soft billows of smoke from the kiln.To finish, gentle smoke lingers and lingers leaving you yearning for more!
