When Domingos Alves de Sousa inherited his family’s quintas in 1987, he began producing wine under the family name. Since then, Domingos and his wines have gained critical acclaim. The Sunset White from Vicentino is a delicious crisp, fresh and zesty white from Atlantic coast vineyards in the south of Portugal. The combination of warm summer sun during ripening and the fresh atlantic breezes help produce grapes with a lovely vitality to them.  Clean, crisp and ultra-refreshing, this is a lovely white blend of Alvarinho, Arinto, Fernao Pires, Semillon and Viosinho that is light enough to be enjoyed as an aperitif yet has enough body to go with lighter dishes, especially seafood.

2019 Vinhas Velhas, Luis Pato,Dao & Bairrada

The Vinhas Velhas, Luis Pato goes through stainless steel fermentation which produces a refreshing white with Pear, Apple and white flower aromatics which carry through to the palate and are underpinned by a nutty, almond complexity.  Mix in a saline edge to the crisp, balanced acidity and you are left with a wonderful white which is evocative of the region.

The 2019 Niepoort Vintage Port has a brilliant appearance with a dark purple rim and concentrated depth of colour. The aroma is fine and subdued with only a hint of primary dark fruits and some spice. The true potential and style of this wine really comes together on the palate with wonderful integration of dark fruits with a grainy tannic structure, pairing volume with amazing balance and elegance and an impressive finish. In conclusion, the primary fruit on the palate is appealing at this stage, but it’s the balanced tannic structure which indicates great ageing potential for the future.

The Defesa Tinto is an inviting blend of Touriga Nacional and Syrah coming from young'ish vines planted on Granite and Schist soils.  The wine is open and immediately enjoyable with a mass of spice-tinged, black fruit aromas which follow on to a rounded, fruit filled palate that is rich and creamy.  The well balanced finish is softly textured, supple and long.

2022 Esporao Colheita Branco, Vinho Regional Alentejano

The Esporao Colheita Branco is an organic blend of Antao Vaz, Viosinho and Alvarinho grown in schist and loamy-clay vineyards.  This fabulous wine is wonderfully refreshing and bursting with notes of fresh grapefruit with tropical fruit notes and a zesty, herbaceous edge.  The palate continues to be fresh and complex with a slight creamy texture to the finsh.
