Description
This is a wonderfully elegant and refined Franciacorta made with 100% Chardonnay. The palate is soft and creamy, showing peach, apricot and exotic candied fruits alongside perfectly poised acidity and a refreshingly tangy finish. This wonderful Franciacorta underwent secondary fermentation in bottle (as per Champagne) and was aged on its lees for 24 months prior to disgorging, and then for a further 2 months in bottle prior to release.
The Berlucchi family winery was founded in 1955 by Guido Berlucchi, Franco Ziliani and Giorgio Lanciani. Together, they transformed Franciacorta into one of Italy’s most prestigious regions for the production of sparkling wine. Franciacorta’s renaissance began with Guido Berlucchi’s creation of the very first Classic Method wine in 1961. With a pioneering spirit, Berlucchi introduced and promoted expertise that had not existed in Franciacorta until that point, inspiring many other passionate, forward-thinking producers to follow suit. Together, they transformed this region into the crown jewel of Italian winemaking.

Following many ultra-successful vintage releases, the Langham Blanc de Blancs has switched to a non vintage blend following the 2018 vintage. Made with 100% Chardonnay, 56% of which is from the 2021 vintage, and aged on the lees for three years, this is an energetic and wonderfully focussed Blanc de Blancs. The nose displays a tense balance between ripe green apple and conference pear with notes of white flowers and intense graphite minerality. The Gran Rue from Cantine Povero is a traditional method sparkling wine made from roughly 50/50 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir using only the first pressed must. Two years lees ageing produces a beautifully balanced, biscuity fizz that is soft and creamy with a gentle mousse and delicate notes of pastry and baked bread. Only 6000 bottles are produced annually.
