Description

This is another beautful Champagne from the Levasseur stable and show what you can achieve by honing in on terroir and acute attention to detail in both the vineyard and winery.  80% Pinot Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir and 5% Chardonnay from the oldest plots in the vineyard, this wine has a healthy 30% Reserve wine in the blend.  Stunning value again (see Noir de Terroir), with quite exotic fruit content, a dry, mineral backbone and clean, crisp finish.  This wine spends 4 years ageing on it’s lees which helps add to the roundness, depth and complexity and is way beyond the minimum required in the region.

2018 Balbiacus Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru, Champagne Delavenne

Pinot Noir

The 2018 Balbiacus Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru is a new release from Champagne Delavenne that immediately captured our attention when tasting their impeccable range.  Made from 100% Pinot Noir this beautiful Champagne is pale golden in the glass and has a toasty nose of brioche, red fruits and mineral undertones.  The palate is rounded and soft from 4 years of bottle age and finishes with a wonderful freshness and vitality that simply begs for you to go back for another sip.  Mightily impressive.

NV Cuvee de Reserve, Champagne Gallimard, Half Bottle

Champagne Blend

Didier Gallimard owns 10 hectares of prime vineyards on the steep slopes around Les Riceys in the southern Aube. Didier’s son Arnaud has joined him, becoming the seventh generation, and the long-term future is now secure. Their vines’ average age is over 30 years and the dramatically sloping vineyards, which are of chalk and Kimmeridgian limestone, are planted mainly to Pinot Noir and just a little Chardonnay. Their wines are full and rich and offer enticing aromas and flavours of summer fruits.

2014 Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, Champagne Germar Breton, Magnum

Champagne Blend

Germar Breton are a relatively young Champagne House that started in 2005.  Based in the southerly Aube region, they make approachable, terrific value wines solely from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, eschewing the use of Pinot Meunier as they believe that it brings a harshness ot the final wine.

Gosset Grande Reserve.JPG

NV Grande Reserve, Champagne Gosset, Ay

Champagne Blend

This cuvée has a bright and golden colour. The nose is dominated by the freshness and the fruit. The Chardonnay brings finesse sustained by notes of yellow fruits such as peach and Mirabelle plum. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and generous. The Pinot Noir of Ay gives its structure. Hawthorn and white flowers merge naturally. Acidity is expressed by citrus fruits.
