Description

Duncan Savage is responisble for some of South Africa’s most sought after wines.  The wines are usually made with minimal intervention from exceptional parcels of grapes and are elegant, sophisticated and above all, hugely drinkable.

“Follow The Line is a stellar Cinsault that transcends the limits of the variety. Sourced from a parcel of 43-year-old dry-farmed vines on decomposed granite soils, it has 6% co-fermented Syrah for added complexity, rose petal and Turkish Delight aromas and a focused, pithy, Atlantic-influenced palate of plum and wild strawberry. The tannins are salty and fine grained”. 2027-33. SA Report 2025.

Francophile Syrah.JPG

2022 The Liberator Francophile Syrah, Stellenbosch

Syrah/Shiraz

The Liberator Francophile Syrah is a partial whole bunch ferment which gives a wine that is full of vibrant red-black fruit, with an aromatic nose reminiscent of Saint-Joseph lillie. The result is a thrilling young red that is free of the constraints and manipulated flavour profile that come with barrel-ageing. This is a very pure and naked example of the Syrah grape. Dangerously drinkable on release, it could be expected to age for three to five years in bottle.

2022 Pinot Noir Crepuscule, Idun, Elgin

Pinot Noir

The Crepuscule Pinot Noir by Idun in Elgin shows a very light ruby colour with bricky tints to the rim.  The delightful  nose shows Brambles, rose petals, ripe cherries and strawberries. The palate is wonderfully fresh with red fruits and cherries that are delicate and integrated.

Nuit Eternelle Syrah Idun.JPG

2019 Syrah ‘Nuit Eternelle’, Idun Winery, Elgin

Syrah/Shiraz

The Nuit Eternelle Syrah comes from 3 cool climate vineyard sites in Elgin.  It displays a more 'old world' character with savoury black olive and spice mingled with blackberry and cherry fruit with a tantalising white pepper spice to the finish.  An extended period in oak, 16 months due to Covid, gives the wine extra texture and complexity.
