Description

Distinctly Ribeiro, this wonderful wine is elegant and fresh but with a lovely depth courtesy of the lees ageing.  Honeyed and floral with great precision, this fabulous dry white has thirst quenching savoury notes on the long, balanced and classy finish.

Mauro Estevez is the third generation to take control of this fascinating winery in north-western Spain.  Located an hour inland from Vigo and a mere 30 minutes drive from the Portuguese border, Bodega Mauro Estevez have just 2 hectares of vines spread over 16 different plots along the River Arnoia.  All the plots are carefully tended by hand and all produce grapes with distinct character unique to the individual plot.  The grape varieties are Treixadura, Godello, Albarino, Loureira and Lado, and are all harvested by hand and vinified seperately following harvest.  A cold soak under dry ice prior to gentle pressing and temperature controlled fermentation contribute to the wonderful freshness in this wine.  The wines rest on their lees for 7 months prior to bottling.

The Bodega produce a mere 10,000 – 12,000 bottles per year, the majority of which is sold domestically, with roughly 600 bottles coming to the UK annually

2021 Puligny Montrachet, Domaine Meunier

Chardonnay

The grapes for this approachable Puligny are hand harvested and undergo a gentle pressing.  The juice is then left to settle for a few days then put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. Indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation and the wine spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.  Great persistence in the mouth, this wine has a wonderful freshness to it and can be enjoyed in it's youth.

Cremant de Bourgogne Fournillon.JPG

2021/22 Cremant de Bourgogne Brut, Domaine Fournillon

Pinot Noir

Fournillon have 23 hectares of vines in Chablis in the cool, north of burgundy and are predominantly producers of classic, steely Chablis (see our fantastic value 'house' Chablis), but they also produce some red and this delicious cremant from 100% Pinot Noir.  All fruit is hand-harvested and vinified carefully to produce an easy drinking, fruit-forward fizz that is well balanced and nicely rounded with a fine mousse.  Excellent as an apertif.

2024 Mont Rocher Viognier Vielle Vignes, Pays d’Oc

Viognier

The Mont Rocher Vielle Vignes is a terrific value Viognier. It has a haunting honeysuckle and apricot aroma and rich, almost unctuous palate that also retains freshness.  The finish is crisp, tangy and refreshing.

Riesling Sekt Trocken Hanewald Schwerdt.JPG

2023 Riesling Sekt Trocken, Hanewald-Schwerdt, Pfalz

Riesling

The Hanewald-Schwerdt Riesling Sekt Trocken has a steely lemon tinged nose with red apple and peach underpinned by zesty lime acidity, resulting in a lovely refreshing style.  This is by no means bone dry though, and with 23grams of residual sugar this a fruitier style that is a great alternative to Prosecco for those looking for something a little different.
