Description
The Monkey Jacket Red epitomises what the Cruse wine company are all about – producing characterful, individual wines that are a joy to drink. This cracker of a red is a blend of predominantly Valdiguie with support from Carignan, Petite Sirah and other varieties, all from vineyards at least 50 years old. The wine itself has a juicy mix of red (Strawberry and Raspberry), and dark cherry and Bramble fruits alongside bright herbal notes and hints of leather and black olive. Open and fresh, this lovely wine can be enjoyed chilled in the warmer months or popped open in the depths of winter – either way, it’s guaranteed to brighten your day!
Approximately 35% of the blend was whole bunch fermented in concrete. All of the grapes were fermented in concrete and then pressed into older French oak barrels and concrete tanks, with an eye on retaining brightness of fruit. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally with the wine receiving a light sulphur addition immediately before bottling.
