Description

The Andreas Syrah comes from a boutique winery between Paarl and Wellington.  It is a wonderful example of the grape displaying lots of blackberry, blackcurrant and ripe dark fruits alongside hints of pepper and savoury leather.  The palate is complex yet finely poised with well-integrated ripe dark fruits, herbal tinges and silky tannins.

The Syrah grapes are hand-picked in the early morning and brought to the cellar whilst still cool and fresh from the morning dew. They are then in the care of full-time winemaker, Shaun Meyeridricks, formerly of Boekenhoutskloof. The Andreas Syrah spends between 12 and 18 months in French barrels, before being allowed a further period of 24 months to mature in the bottle.

Pinot Noir

The grapes for this wine are hand harvested from 2 parcels in the heart of Mercurey where the soil is clay and limestone. They spend 10-15 days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.  The wine then spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.

The 2011 vintage had a hard act to follow coming after two exceptional years in Bordeaux and whilst the wines aren't as showy as the '09's and '10's they are charming and drinking beautifully with a decade in bottle.
