Description

The 2019 Txacoli, Arabako Tantaka is a truly cracking example of Txacoli, earthy and aromatic.  Ultra refreshing and as uperb shellfish wine.

The  fruit is hand harvested in small baskets and brought to the winery in the village for a very light pressing in a pneumatic press, with fermentation taking place in stainless steel.  After 6 months on fine lees, the wine is racked and bottled.

Jaunjo Tallaetxe is a priest and shepherd who felt there was more to his regions wines than just pouring them from a height into tumblers (as is the traditional way), and set about replanting his parents vineyards and creating his own cellar.  The results of his efforts are really special and shows Txacoli in a whole new light.

Chenin Blanc

The Carte d'Or Coteaux du Layon from Baumard has a very attractive honeyed nose, with lifted yellow fruits and more golden tropical elements such as mango, guava and pineapple. It has a particularly tropical character and a very fresh feel on the palate, with steely minerality and a zippy background acidity giving invigorating tartness to keep the wine luscious and buoyant. The rounded, approachable finish has good length.

2024 Verdicchio di Matelica, ColleStefano

Verdicchio

Castelli di Jesi tends to hog the limelight when it comes to Verdicchio but we feel that the wines from Matelica tend to have a slight edge in terms of interest and complexity.  ColleStefano is a wonderful organic property nestled among its private vineyards above Castelraimondo.  The altitude (450m above sea level) provides protection from the sea winds and makes for a temperate climate. Their immaculate vineyards are part of a broader self-sustainable, eco-friendly and balanced system, with the soils only treated with organic manure, thus minimizing the presence of copper.
