Description

The Conebush Syrah from Lomond is a wonderfully elegant, plush wine which reflects the cool Cape Agulhas climate perfectly.  Displaying a distinct richness, this juicy Syrah is wonderfully balanced with appealing notes of
plum, oak spice and white pepper complemented by finely integrated tannins.

The estate is located in the Cape Agulhas appellation of origin, at the latitude 34° 34´ south. Altitudes vary, with some blocks at 50 metres above sea level, while others are located around 100 metres’ elevation, with an unhindered exposure to the sea. Even the lowest-lying vineyards still benefit from the cool maritime winds. This maritime climate
with the fresh sea breezes, ensures that the vineyards are kept cool which results in late ripening, intense fruit with complex flavours and natural balancing acidity. Lomond’s geological formations are unique; the soils are mostly of sandstone and shale origins with the intrusion of granite in sections creating lean, gravelly soils. This marked diversity
of soil types, combined with the valley location creates distinctively fresh wines. The grapes are hand-harvested in the cool, early hours of the morning.

Pinot Noir

The Bourgogne Pinot Noir Epineuil from Domaine Fournillon is a beautifully fresh Pinot with bright, red fruit flavours and supple tannins. This delightful red wine comes from parcels of vines in the village of Epineuil, with the majority of Pinot Noir grapes are harvested mechanically for efficiency so they can be transported to the estate for maceration in stainless steel tank for a period of 2 weeks, with regular punch downs. After separating the skins from the juice it is aged in stainless steel tanks for a minimum of 15 months.

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness.  Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'.  High praise indeed!

Red Blend

The Gonzo Combat Rouge is a rather unusual field blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Viognier which are co-fermented with whole bunch fermentation.  The results is a beautifully supple yet plush and ripe red wine with sweet, spicy raspberry and cherry fruit. We've found it drinks best slightly chilled on a warm evening.
