Description
Produced only in the finest vintages, from the best sites in Rioja Alta, the Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja is the pinnacle of the Imperial range. Fermented in oak vats, with a further 24 months (minimum) in a mixture of French and American oak and then aged for a furtehr 36 months in CVNE’s cellars prior to release, this full-bodied red is a real treat.
“This is very ripe with blackberries, dried fruit, toasted oak and black licoricey on the nose. Full-bodied with ultra-fine, linear tannins and a racy, refined finish. The grapes for this wine are hand harvested from 2 parcels in the heart of Mercurey where the soil is clay and limestone. They spend 10-15 days fermenting in the tank before being put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. The wine then spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.
