The Esporao Colheita Branco is an organic blend of Antao Vaz, Viosinho and Alvarinho grown in schist and loamy-clay vineyards.  This fabulous wine is wonderfully refreshing and bursting with notes of fresh grapefruit with tropical fruit notes and a zesty, herbaceous edge.  The palate continues to be fresh and complex with a richer, slight creamy texture to the finish.

2024 Goldmine White, Boekenhoutskloof, WO Western Cape

The Goldmine White is the long awaited partner to The Chocolate Block, Boekenhoutskloof iconic red wine.  The blend of Swartland Chenin along with Chardonnay, Semillon and Viognier from other regions in the Cape fermented in a mixture of french oak, concrete eggs and clay amphora.  This lovely, textured white shows plenty of stony/savoury notes with herbal aromas and rich yet clean pear and citrus fruit.

The winemaking philosophy at Abel Mendoza is to express the purity of the fruit and the high altitude terroir in which it grows.  His wines are not overly oaked or extracted, instead they are understated and classy.  The Jarrarte Blanco is an intriguing old vine blend of 33% Viura, 33% Tempranillo Blanco with the remainder being made up of Torrontes, Garnahca Blanca and Malvasia.  All vineyard work is carried out organically and the harvest is manual, keeping the fruit in the best possible condition when it arrives in the winery.

Founded in 1994 Ktima Chatzivaritis is a 20 hectare organic estate in Goumenissa, Macedonia. Winemaking is now in the hands of 2nd generation Chloi Chatzivaritis who trained in Europe and has returned home to practice the low intervention philosophy she picked up on her travels.  The Mosaic white is a delicious, refreshing blend of Roditis, Xinomavro, Assyrtiko and Sauvignon, showing the best traits of each variety.

2024 Orange Solara, Viile Timisului

White Blend

This cracking little 'orange wine' comes from the innovative Cramele Recas winery in Romania.  It's not made with oranges, but the name refers to a white wine made in the red wine method, with fermentation taking place on the skins of the grapes, hence the darker colour.  This wine is fermented naturally with wild yeasts and without the addition of any sulphur.

This is quintessential Vinho Verde, showing white orchard fruits with tropical hints, brilliant freshness and that telltale 'prickle' on the finish.  Casa de Vilacetinho is located in Alpendurada overlooking the River Douro and covers an estate with 30 hectares of vineyards on granite, with a predominantly south facing exposure, making it one of the most prosperous terroirs of the region.

The Entre les Vents Cotes du Rhone Blanc is a wonderfully expressive white wine showing a richly layered nose. The palate is fresh and fruit-driven, with flavours of peach, lemon and apricot, while subtle woody nuances and a refined minerality emerge on the finish, adding depth and elegance.  Made with mostly Grenache Blanc with Marsanne and Viognier in supporting roles, this lovely new addition to our list is a great aperitif but would match grilled fish and white meat dishes with creamy sauces.

The tiny plots of vines that make up the Mil Demonios Semillon/Sauvignon blend are microvinified in Amphora and then aged in tight grained oak prior to release.  This terrific white is precise and focussed with a wonderful vein of acidity running from start to finish.  The mid-palate shows a lovely weight to it that suggests the wine will age further and gain complexity as it does so.

The Patusco Vinho Verde is a reat value, easy drinking white perfect for long summer lunches. Packed with citrus and slight tropical fruit notes, this zippy Vinho Verde is a very slightly spritzy giving a little added perk to the vibrant mouthfeel.  (Please note that the cork and wire closure is more for show than keeping bubbles in - this is only slightly spritzy as opposed to fully sparkling).
