2018 Vom Kalk, Weingut Weninger, Weinland
Red Blend
The Vom Kalk from Weingut Weninger is a fabulous natural red wine made with a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sankt Laurent. After a manual harvest the grapes are destemmed and fermented with ambient yeasts in cement tanks. The wine is then aged in a mixture of cement tanks and 500 litre wooden barrels and bottled without filtration or fining with just a minimum of sulphur.

The Triebaumer Rose is a massively appealing Rose made from the Blaufrankisch grape variety. A delicious combination of red berry fruits, strawberries and cream and refreshing redcurrants abound on both the nose and the palate. The finish is long and wonderfully fresh with a tantalising hint of sweetness which simply adds to the appeal. Tasted blind, this could pass for a very light red as opposed to Rose but that shouldn't stop you from giving it a go.

The Triebaumer Furmint is a wonderful example of the grape, showing plenty of pear, red apple and citrus fruit with hints of quince an spice on the crisp, fresh finish. Matured on the lees for a little added texture, this accomplished wine makes a wonderful match to Thai dishes yet is light enough to enjoy on it's own as an aperitif.

The Fels Am from Anton Waldschutz is a fuller expression of Gruner Veltliner with some added depth and texture due to 6 months ageing on lees. There's so much to excite here, with a nose of exotic fruits, spice and dried herbs. The palate is full, round and rich yet doesn't lack any of the spiciness one would expect from the grape. This is delicious now but could age gracefully for years to come.

The Weissburgunder Fels Reserve from Waldschutz is 100% Pinot Blanc and an absolute delight to drink. Unoaked yet with a decent degree of richness, the wine has floral notes to the nose, a rounded palate that balances textured fruit with richer notes of caramel and hazlenuts. The finish is long and impeccably balanced. This accomplished white is delicious now but has great ageing potential.
