Description

Champagne Henri Giraud make outstanding Champagnes with an attention to detail that is second to none.  The first fermentation is carried out in oak casks from the Argonne, where the especially tight grained oak lends a supportive rather than dominating role to the wines.  Minimal intervention in the vineyard and meticulous selection from terroir to terroir results in wines that are complex, expressive and downright delicious.  Don’t just take our word for it though, here’s a few comments from renowned wine critics:

The MV 16 is bright, fresh and airy and yet has the natural richness of Aÿ that Giraud fans have come to expect. Apricot, tangerine oil, nutmeg, cinnamon, chamomile and dried flowers all meld together in a creamy, ample Champagne that hits all the right notes. A Champagne of towering presence, the MV 16 is classy, understated and undeniably alluring. It is also one of the most impressive Champagnes I have ever tasted from Claude Giraud. Even in the early going, the 70% new oak is so well-integrated. This set of new releases is full of highlights, but the MV 16 is especially fine. Don’t miss it! Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: December 11, 2020. 2022 – 2036

Deep gold. Not yet released but bursting with energy and interest. I’d very happily drink this now. There is real structure to this wine. Edgy but satisfying, and should probably appeal to a wider range of wine drinkers than the defiantly oak-influenced Argonne. Really very fine. 2021 – 2028

The grapes for the Lete Vautrain Brut 204 are harvested by hand and sorted prior to fermentation at a cool temperature, and ageing on lees takes place for a minimum of 36 months.  The wine shows a lovely deep golden hue in the glass with apple, peach and apricot fruit complemented by dried fruits and classic biscuity notes.  A well balanced, complex and rounded Champagne that is the perfect aperitif style.

Champagne Blend

This delightful, and rather smart looking, Champagne comes from the relatively young Champagne House of Germar Breton that was established in 2005.  Based in the southerly Aube region, they make approachable, terrific value wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.  This wonderful introduction to their range shows expressive brioche, green apple and quince fruit and has wonderfully balanced acidity.  Germar Breton are certainly a Champagne House to keep an eye on.
