Description

This is a textbook Riesling, made from grapes grown on the slopes of the Haardt mountains.  Folloing a long, cool ferment (lasting 2 months), the wine spent a further 6 months on lees wihtout batonnage until bottling.  The result is a typically vibrant Riesling with stone fruit, citrus and Lime fruit characters on the nose.  The intense and textured palate combines minerality and structure with zesty, crisp acidity and a vibrant, fruity finish.

Gerd Stepp grew up in Bad Dürkheim in the Mittelhaardt of the Pfalz. As a child he watched and helped his parents tend their vines and make wine. He would help them prune the vines, harvest the grapes by hand and – his favourite task – drive the tractor. Gerd always knew that wherever his career took him – and like so many of us he started in Oddbins in London – he would return home. Today, Gerd farms the family’s vineyards and runs the little winery, also buying some grapes from like-minded growers in the region. Having returned to Bad Dürkheim after making wines around the globe, his technical winemaking skills combined with commercial experience allow him to produce a range of wines which are both great value and especially good and true expressions of these grape varieties.

2022 Cremant de Bourgogne Brut, Domaine Fournillon

Pinot Noir

Fournillon have 23 hectares of vines in Chablis in the cool, north of burgundy and are predominantly producers of classic, steely Chablis (see our fantastic value 'house' Chablis), but they also produce some red and this delicious cremant from 100% Pinot Noir.  All fruit is hand-harvested and vinified carefully to produce an easy drinking, fruit-forward fizz that is well balanced and nicely rounded with a fine mousse.  Excellent as an apertif.

Puligny Montrachet Meunier.JPG

2021 Puligny Montrachet, Domaine Meunier

Chardonnay

The grapes for this approachable Puligny are hand harvested and undergo a gentle pressing.  The juice is then left to settle for a few days then put into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. Indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation and the wine spends 12 months in barrel before being blended and bottled.  Great persistence in the mouth, this wine has a wonderful freshness to it and can be enjoyed in it's youth.

The Mont Rocher Vielle Vignes is a terrific value Viognier. It has a haunting honeysuckle and apricot aroma and rich, almost unctuous palate that also retains freshness.  The finish is crisp, tangy and refreshing.
