Description

The Gloria S Garnacha is a beautiful example of modern Grenache, balancing elegant, silkily textured fruit with lightness that belies it’s complexity.  This vibrant red wine is 50% whole bunch fermented and then aged in a mixture of used French Oak and clay Amphorae, before resting in bottle for 20 months prior to release.  Impecabbly balanced with soft tannins and bags of fruit, this is a delightful wine for lovers of first class Grenache.

Ver Sacrum is the brainchild of a small group of viticultors / winemakers, self-styled as “Team Grenachista”. The aim of the project is to champion a comeback of the Mediterranean varieties that Argentina lost after the 1950´s in favour of Malbec plantings. They grow Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Marsanne, Syrah, Mencía, Carignan, Teroldego and Nebbiolo, as well as some Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir, with the wines being made in a garage or rented warehouse.  The philosphy is to “bottle the vineyard”, and winemaking is therefore as hands off as possible, utilising natural yeast,  low intervention and primitive vessels.  This restrained approach to winemaking produces wines that lower in alcohol, naturally higher in acidity and posess a great purity of fruit and elegance.

2022 Lirac Rouge Cuvee Elie, Domaine La Loyanne

Rhone Blend

This relatively young family owned Domaine was created in 2001 by vignerons with 4 generations of vinegrowing and winemaking expertise under their belts.  They own some seriously old vines in superb sites in the Southern Rhone on a mixture of soils of red sand, clay and the classic 'Galet' pebbles associated with Chateauneuf du Pape.  As a result, their wines posess a wonderful depth and concentration.

2024 Cotes Du Rhone, Un Bon Canon

Rhone Blend

The Un Bon Canon Cotes du Rhone hits the spot every time with it's fruit forward blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 5% Mouvedre which is fermented in concrete tanks.  The vineyards lie in the southern part of the region on a dried up river bed strewn with heat retaining pebbles.  The hot summer sun ensures that the wine is bold and fruity with raspberry and dark fruits and hints of garrigue/herbal undergrowth.

Moulin Camus Gamay.JPG

2023 Gamay, Domaine Moulin Camus, IGP Loire

Gamay

This 100% Gamay from Domaine Moulin Camus comes from grapes grown on a slope of pure mica schist which gives the wine juicy, rounded red fruits a bit of tautness and minerality.  A warmer than normal, sulphur free maceration for three days helps bring out some warmth and roundness to the fruit, making it slightly beaujolais'esque but without the bubble gum/commercial edge that one would normally find in this price range.
