Description

Domaine Santa Duc have long been one of our favourite southern Rhone producers.  The Habemus Papam is made from a selection of old vine Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%) selected from the Le Pradel and Le Font du Pape plots in the east and centre of Chateauneuf respectively.

The grapes are hand harvested from vines with an aveage age of 60 years old, and go through two manual sorting processes to ensure only the healthiest berries are used in the final blend.  Partial de-stemming and gravity fed into stainless steel for fermentation at controlled temperature for 20 – 30 days, with daily punching over.  Gentle pressing precedes malolactic fermentation in vats before ageing takes place in a mixture of Stockinger Foudres and terracotta amphora.

The wine itself is a true joy, with plenty of garrigue notes, a big mouthful of dark fruits and yet remarkable restraint.  A chateauneuf to be savoured glass after glass.

Bordeaux Blend

The 2011 vintage had a hard act to follow coming after two exceptional years in Bordeaux and whilst the wines aren't as showy as the '09's and '10's they are charming and drinking beautifully with a decade in bottle.

The aromas are rich and inviting with juicy blackberry, violet, and anise lending layered complexity. The mid-palate is full and plummy with a touch of toasted oak. This structured yet smooth wine finishes with hints of cola and vanilla.

Pinot Noir

The Bourgogne Pinot Noir Epineuil from Domaine Fournillon is a beautifully fresh Pinot with bright, red fruit flavours and supple tannins. This delightful red wine comes from parcels of vines in the village of Epineuil, with the majority of Pinot Noir grapes are harvested mechanically for efficiency so they can be transported to the estate for maceration in stainless steel tank for a period of 2 weeks, with regular punch downs. After separating the skins from the juice it is aged in stainless steel tanks for a minimum of 15 months.

Saransot Dupre Bordeaux Rouge Magnum.JPG

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness.  Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'.  High praise indeed!
