Description

Chateau Saint-Pierre is the smallest classed growth in Saint Julien but has a growing reputation for producing excellent, deeply coloured reds.  It is part of the Chateau Gloria stable and often eclipses it’s more illustrious stablemate in blind tastings.

“Very pretty and typical for the appellation with aromas of blackcurrants, violets and sandalwood that follow through to a full body with layers of polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Lasts a long time on the palate. Classic structure”

96 Points James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, January 2022

“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Saint-Pierre explodes with powerful creme de cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, and ripe plums scents, leading to hints of Indian spices and rose oil. Medium to full-bodied, lively, and with fine-grained tannins, it is chock full of ripe, juicy black fruits and finishes with a skip in its step”

Dark berry and spicy notes entice the nose, while ripe plum, blackberry and a touch of blueberry flavors entertain the taste buds. Juicy and structured, this is well balanced and has a long, velvety finish.

2022 Lirac Rouge Cuvee Elie, Domaine La Loyanne

Rhone Blend

This relatively young family owned Domaine was created in 2001 by vignerons with 4 generations of vinegrowing and winemaking expertise under their belts.  They own some seriously old vines in superb sites in the Southern Rhone on a mixture of soils of red sand, clay and the classic 'Galet' pebbles associated with Chateauneuf du Pape.  As a result, their wines posess a wonderful depth and concentration.

2023 Gamay, Domaine Moulin Camus, IGP Loire

Gamay

This 100% Gamay from Domaine Moulin Camus comes from grapes grown on a slope of pure mica schist which gives the wine juicy, rounded red fruits a bit of tautness and minerality.  A warmer than normal, sulphur free maceration for three days helps bring out some warmth and roundness to the fruit, making it slightly beaujolais'esque but without the bubble gum/commercial edge that one would normally find in this price range.

2020 Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac Medoc, Magnum

Bordeaux Blend

Chateau Saransot-Dupre is a favourably sited 17 hectares property that lies between Fourcas Dupré and Fourcas Hosten in Listrac.  Due to Listrac’s cooler temperatures, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are favoured over Cabernet Sauvignon to form the majority of the blend, helping them achieve optimum ripeness.  Much like Chateau Fourcas Hosten, the wines have improved year on year since 2010 and the property were put on the radar thanks to a certain Robert Parker hailing the 2010 vintage as 'classed growth quality'.  High praise indeed!
