Red Blend

The 2024 Secateurs Red Blend by AA Badenhorst has to be amongst the best he's made.  Adi bought a neighbouring farm that he used to buy grapes from but now has pick of the crop for himself.  There's a hgher proportion of Cabernet in this release than usual, adding more cassis and dark fruit flavours to the mineral tinged spice of the Shiraz. Fuller than normal too, but by no means less approachable, with juicy tannins and terrific balance.

2021 Tokara Director’s Reserve Red, Stellenbosch

Bordeaux Blend

The Tokara Director's Reserve Red displays an appealing red claret colour with an intense core and a ruby rim. The nose shows complex aromas of ripe red and black fruits with hints of dried cranberry, baking spice and graphite. The wine enters the palate with incredible purity and focus. Flavours are those of dark cherries, blackberries and ripe plum skin. Sumptuous and full, there is a hint of spice on the mid-palate which leads to fine, firm tannins on the finish.  This is a truly classy wine and one which will age gracefully for years to come.

2025 Chenin Blanc, Beaumont, Bot River

Chenin Blanc

The Beaumont Chenin Blanc is a delicious example of cooler climate Chenin Blanc fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks. Dry, fresh and delicious!  Although very approachable in it's youth, the Beaumont Chenin, as with many other good South African Chenin Blancs, has teh ability to age for many years.  It's a great value wine to stock up on and see how it develops.

2018 Trois Cailloux , Idun, Elgin

Syrah/Shiraz

The Trois Cailloux by Idun is a classic Southern Rhone blend of Syrah/Mourvedre/Grenache that shows a deep ruby red with a violet rim.  Aromas of ripe currants, forest floor and tea leaf caressed by the spicy flavours of white pepper and coriander. Complex concentrated fruits, medium bodied with dense but silky tannins.
