Description

Chapoutiers wonderful Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne is characterised by elegance and restraint, showing red fruits with hints of liquorice on the nose.  The medium bodied palate is elegant, if a touch broody, with blackcurrant and raspberry fruit characters and a spicy youthfulness.  Coming from a mixture of vineyard sites with different exposures and soil types ranging from granite to silt via alluvial, gravelly soils, this is a complex yet open and forward style with soft tannins.  85% of the wine is fermented in oak giving spicy, woody notes with the remainder fermented in concrete tank providing freshness and the preservation of mineral characteristics.

The name ‘Monier de la Sizeranne’ comes from the name of an important Tain l’Hermitage family, who also owned the ‘La Sizeranne’ vineyard. Amongst many notable members of the family, Maurice Monier created a version of Braille and is celebrated in many of the Chapoutier labels.
