Description

The Crozes Hermitage Nouvelere is made from 100% Syrah from old vines that is fermented and aged in oak. This is wonderfuly complex and concentrated, showing brooding dark fruits, liquorice, herbs and spice.  An absolute joy and a terrific example of Crozes Hermitage.

Philippe Jaboulet, along with his son, Vincent, took over Domaine Collonge in Crozes-Hermitage as a going concern soon after the sale of Maison Paul Jaboulet Ainé to the Frey family in January 2006. The Jaboulet family kept hold of most of their prized vineyards, including the Thalabert which has 80 + year old vines and is littered with large boulders, making any sort of mechanisation impossible.

  • Winemeplease1

This wine is very easy to drink despite the alcohol level and has beautiful complexity. Always a good choice if you like full body, rich, easy to drink on its own. It goes very well with charcuterie and cheese platters.

2023 Gamay, Domaine Moulin Camus, IGP Loire

    Gamay

This 100% Gamay from Domaine Moulin Camus comes from grapes grown on a slope of pure mica schist which gives the wine juicy, rounded red fruits a bit of tautness and minerality.  A warmer than normal, sulphur free maceration for three days helps bring out some warmth and roundness to the fruit, making it slightly beaujolais'esque but without the bubble gum/commercial edge that one would normally find in this price range.

    Gamay

The grapes for this medium weight, fruit led Julienas are hand harvested and left in tank for 10 days to macerate in order to optimise the colour and aroma of the wine. Fermentation takes place at a warm 27/28 degrees centigrade and maturation follows until March when the wine is bottled. An intense, purple colour. Fruity aromas dominated by fragrant raspberry, blackberry and blueberry. Round, supple and rich yet balanced by a lingering freshness on the finish.

    Rhone Blend

The Un Bon Canon Cotes du Rhone hits the spot every time with it's fruit forward blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 5% Mouvedre which is fermented in concrete tanks.  The vineyards lie in the southern part of the region on a dried up river bed strewn with heat retaining pebbles.  The hot summer sun ensures that the wine is bold and fruity with raspberry and dark fruits and hints of garrigue/herbal undergrowth.

2022 Gonzo Combat Rouge, Vandal Wine Company

    Red Blend

The Gonzo Combat Rouge is a rather unusual field blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Viognier which are co-fermented with whole bunch fermentation.  The results is a beautifully supple yet plush and ripe red wine with sweet, spicy raspberry and cherry fruit. We've found it drinks best slightly chilled on a warm evening.
