Romania
Grape growing in Romania dates back as far as 5,700BC, but the countrys modern wine industry is still very young. Due to political and cultural upheavels in the past, this has shaped the Romanian wine industry. The fall of comunisim in the 80s created a re- privatised wine industry, creating a much needed change. The country saw dramatic investment from overseas, including Italaian, Austrian, German, French and Uk companies. This investmant saw a huge moderinsation in winemaking and planting vineyards With this modernisation came the idea to create quality wines instead of producing in bulk.
Romania is now divided into seven different wine regions. The biggest of these is Moldova which is east of the Carpathians. Along the curve of the hilly Carpathians lies one of the most famous vineyards at Dealu Mare. It is well watered, south facing and has the highest temperatures in Romania.
The favourtie varieties within Romania are the local Feteasca Regala and the slightly meatier Feteasca Alba. Other common ones are Welschriesling and Aligote. There are also many international varieties that have a track record within the country. These varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Muscat Ottonel. There is also a little Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
A popular wine that has entered romania is the Orange wine. The orange wine was made to show off all Romania has to offer. It is made up of varieties such as Feteasca Neagra,Sauvignon Blanc and Tamioasa Romaneasca.

White Blend
This cracking little 'orange wine' comes from the innovative Cramele Recas winery in Romania. It's not made with oranges, but the name refers to a white wine made in the red wine method, with fermentation taking place on the skins of the grapes, hence the darker colour. This wine is fermented naturally with wild yeasts and without the addition of any sulphur.
