We are delighted to be stockists of this wonderful whisky from family owned Lochlea Distillery.  This small Lowland distillery are meticulous about using their own barley and an exacting cut to produce a superb whisky which belies it's relative youth.  With no age statement whiskies becoming more prevalent, the emphasis tends to be on releasing whiskies when ready rather than at a set age.  This is one of the earlier releases from Lochlea and we are excited to see what the future holds for them.

Lochlea ‘Ploughing Edition’, Lowland Single Malt

The Lochlea Ploughing Edition is the fourth, and last in the current series, of limited releases.  This intriguing youthful whisky is made with unpeated Barley but matured in a mixture of ex-Islay and peated quarter casks to give a subtle and lingering peated smokiness to the juicy fruit and cereal notes of the spirit.

Lochlea Cask Strength Single Malt Batch 1

Single Malt

This is the first cask strength release from the family-owned Lochlea distillery.  Using locally grown ingredients the whisky is distilled and aged on site in a mixture of 1st Fill Bourbon Barrels and 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts.  It goes without saying that the whisky is non-chill filtered and the colour is natural.  The nose shows a complex mixture of fruit, cigar notes and roasted coffee beans which leads to a palate that is nicely fruited with hints of brazil nuts.  The finish is rich and oaky.
