The 2010 Rioja Gran Reserva, Martinez lacuesta is a mid-weight, smooth and silky with concentrated red frutis, spice and beautifully integrated tannins. This is drinking beautifully, especially after a decent decant, but further ageing will be rewarded. Complex yet elegant, this Gran Reserva has spent 36 months in new and nearly new american oak and a further 36 months in bottle prior to release.

This vintage takes it back to La Rioja of old, with heavy frosts throughout winter, snow and an abundance of rain. Spring was also cold and wet followed by a warm summer but without excessive temperatures. These conditions provided a long, slow ripening period, which enabled the production of great, intense wines.

The 2016 Monopole Classico Rioja Blanco is straw yellow in colour with slight golden hints. The complex nose shows scents of pear, apple, white currant and white flowersunderpinned by slightly spicy dried fruits. On the palate there is salinity (Manzanilla influence) and an elegant acidity which provide freshness, on the long, thirst quenching finish.

The 2016 Rioja Blanco Las Planas, Real Agrado is a pale golden colour, with the aromas of aniseed tinged oak, balsamic and honey notes. The palate is complex with flavours of peach compote and silky oak notes courtesy of 24 months in a mixture of American and French oak. The velvety palate is soft yet retains plenty of freshness with a fine, elegant and very long finish.

This wine has a purple cherry color with a violet rim.  Whole bunch fermentation makes for a juicy and very fresh red, with sweet fruit and just a faint touch of bitterness (not in a bad way) that lengthens the finish. It is very elegant with good intensity and has a whole range of primary aromas like fresh red berries, cherry, raspberry, red plums and others all encased in a violet scented floral character.

The Vermut Rojo, red vermouth is produced in the same way by Martínez Lacuesta since 1937. The Conzia - or extract, aromatic plants and herbs macerated cold in white wine - is aged in American oak barrels, and is added to the white wine with sugar, citric acid and alcohol.
