Rhone Blend
A 50/50 blend of Grenache and Syrah with a vine age of between 25 and 50 years. The wine is fermented in tank, then spends 12 months ageing in old barriques and foudre. With just 13% alcohol, it’s much fresher than the more elevated examples currently coming out of the region. As well as an abundance of red berry fruit there is a savoury complexity to the wine, making it a perfect accompaniment to food, in particular warming autumnal dishes.

Daniel, Bruno and Bruno`s nephew Guillaume Long run this 70-hectare estate in the foothills north of the distinctive Dentelles de Montmirail. The average vine age here is 35 years and the domaine was certified organic in 2009. The altitude of the estate and the shade provided by surrounding mountains, together with meticulous work to balance the ecosystem of the vineyard, means the grapes maintain a fresh, vibrant acidity despite the heat. In the cellar, great care is taken to produce balanced, elegant wines that reflect their terroir.

2020 cotes du rhone villages massif d’uchaux, aleph

This Northern Rhone winery is a relative newcomer having set up in 2011 but with a passion for local gastronomy and meticulous eye for detail in their winemaking they are making quite a splash. This blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache is co-fermented with natural yeasts and gives plenty of blackberry, blackcurrant and black olive tinged fruit. 30% barrel ageing gives a whiff of spice whilst not overpowering the clean fruit allowing the wine to remain fresh despite it's 14.5% alcohol level.

The Cotes du Rhone Un Bon Canon hits the spot everytime with it's fruit forward blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 5% Cinsault and 5% Mouvedre which is fermented in concrete tanks. The vineyards lie in the southern part of the region on a dried up river bed strewn with heat retaining pebbles. The hot summer sun ensures that the wine is bold and fruity with raspberry and dark fruits and hints of garrigue/herbal undergrowth.

This is a wonderful Beaumes de Venise made from Muscats a Petit Grains Blanc and Noir and has a wonderful rose tinted copper hue to it. Expressive with typical Muscat florality on the nose along with notes of butterscotch, orang and spices. The palate is rich, velvety and full bodied but in no way cloying with stone fruits and nicely poised acidity on the finish.

Les Deux Cols is a joint venture between Ireland's leading Rhone importer, Simon Tyrell and Charles Derain, one time Sommelier to Alain Ducasse at Le Louis XV in Paris. This Grenache Noir dominated blend is whole bunch and foot trodden, natural yeast fermented in concrete tanks and then matured in a mixture of old barriques and larger demi-muid barrels. Pale in the glass, this is fresh and easy with red fruits and a hint of spice. Hand harvesting takes place at least a week earlier than the neighbouring properties allowing for a fresher style, and all vineyards are either organic or in conversion with some biodynamic practices in use.
