The 2020 SRS Chardonnay by Flametree reveals classic grapefruit, white peach and dried pear fruits. This gives way to barrel ferment and sulphide complexities, providing a lovely savoury oyster shell/saline character and adding to the wines complexity and overall purity.
Flametree Wines is located on the picturesque shores of Geographe Bay in Western Australia, entry point to the renowned Margaret River wine region. The SRS range represents the very best the winery can produce, and the fruit for this Chardonnay was whole bunch pressed into French Oak puncheons (35% new) before undergoing full wild yeast fermentation with minimal sulphur additions. The wine was then aged for 10 months with lees stirring to promote texture and also 20 % of the barrels went through malolactic fermentation.

This cuvée has a bright and golden colour. The nose is dominated by the freshness and the fruit. The Chardonnay brings finesse sustained by notes of yellow fruits such as peach and Mirabelle plum. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and generous. The Pinot Noir of Ay gives its structure. Hawthorn and white flowers merge naturally. Acidity is expressed by citrus fruits.

The grapes for the Lete Vautrain Brut 204 are harvested by hand and sorted prior to fermentation at a cool temperature, and ageing on lees takes place for a minimum of 36 months. The wine shows a lovely deep golden hue in the glass with apple, peach and apricot fruit complemented by dried fruits and classic biscuity notes. A well balanced, complex and rounded Champagne that is the perfect aperitif style.
