Description

Luminous Hills Vineyard sits in the southwestern portion of the Yamhill-Carlton District within the larger Willamette Valley appellation, and is the home vineyard of Seven of Hearts winemaker Byron Dooley.

3 wines are produced here, with this estate Pinot Noir being a blend of several vineyard sites.  A wonderful, deep red which is 25% whole cluster fermented and then barrel aged for sixteen months in a mixture of French oak from different cooperages. Lively and spicey with  dark berry scents on the nose. Smooth and appealingly sweet, offering plump raspberry and floral pastille flavors that intensify on the mid-palate.  Although structured, this wonderful Pinot is forward and nicely balanced, displaying clarity and rounded tannins on the finish.

2021 Gamay ‘Canaille’, Domaine Roussely

Gamay

Vincent Roussely is the fourth generation of the family to make wines at this beautiful 8 hectare vineyard site in the heart of Chenonceaux on the Cher River. Since 2007 he has farmed his vineyards by hand machine and horse and as a result has seen the health of his vineyards and grapes improve immeasurably, which naturally has a direct influence on the wines he produces. The Cellar is underground, dug into a tuffeau tunnel underneath the vines, and have been used for vinification of wine for over 250 years. New inox fermentation tanks have been put in place located in carved out recesses in the soft stone. Ferments are spontaneous and naturally very slow. 100% Gamay, 50% of which is whole bunch ferment and 50% destemmed from the younger vineyards around the village of Ange, south of the Cher river. Natural ferments with malolactic fermentation taking  place in stainless steel and bottled the summer after harvest.  Delightfully approachable and a pure pleasure to drink, this is a true terroir wine with a sense of place and vitality which make it equally appealing to savour or simply drink.

2020 Cabernet/Shiraz, Hartenberg, Stellenbosch

Cabernet Sauvignon

The Cabernet/Shiraz from Hartenberg has a lovely vivid purple/red colour, with ripe berry fruits on the nose and hints of forest floor entwined with sweet spice. The palate reveals plenty of vibrant red fruit courtesy of the Cabernet Sauvignon alongside typical black pepper spice from the Shiraz.  There's plenty of juicy, crunchy fruit, soft gentle tannins and a velvety, elegant finish.
