For over a decade Chateau Kirwan has undergone a massive overhaul both in the cellar and vineyard and has also had a change of winemaker.  Meticulous care and attention is paid to every part of the viticultural and vinification process and as a result the wines are truly delicious.  The grapes used for Chateau Kirwan are hand picked from the very best plots from the predominantly gravel (with some clay) soils, and then go through two sorting processes, by hand, before being vinified in seperate batches according to the vineyard plot they came from.  The wine spends 18 months in oak prior to bottling and half the barrels are brand new each year.

The 2010 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot and in it’s youth showed plenty of intense, brooding dark fruits and richness.  There is plenty of freshness here too though as well as wonderful floral aromtics and good structure.  Still relatively youthful, this stonker of a wine has probably got a few more years to go before it starts to really open up, and then will give massive drinking pleasure for another 20 years or so.

Bordeaux Blend

The 2014 vintage of this 'under the radar' Chateau is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc.  Chateau Saint-Pierre is the smallest classed growth in Saint Julien but has a growing reputation for producing excellent, deeply coloured reds.  It is part of the Chateau Gloria stable and often eclipses it's more illustrious stablemate in blind tastings.  Prices are creeping up as their reputation grows but these beautifully made wines still represent good value.

The 2019 Finca Resalso, Emilio Moro wine is deep cherry red in colour with a violet rim. It is honest, intense and very expressive on the nose. The primary aromas of Tempranillo, such as blackberry and blackcurrant, stand out. It is well-structured in the mouth with mellow tannins and well-balanced acidity.

Syrah Blend

The 2017 Little Eagle Red by Eagle's Nest is shiraz dominated. This wine offers beautiful spicy tones on the nose, complemented by ripe red fruit. On the palate, the red fruit and spice flavours are further balanced by smoky, savoury notes. The palate shows delicious freshness leading to a structured feel with soft, integrated tannins.
