2010 chateau kirwan, 3ieme cru classe margaux
Bordeaux Blend
For over a decade Chateau Kirwan has undergone a massive overhaul both in the cellar and vineyard and has also had a change of winemaker. Meticulous care and attention is paid to every part of the viticultural and vinification process and as a result the wines are truly delicious. The grapes used for Chateau Kirwan are hand picked from the very best plots from the predominantly gravel (with some clay) soils, and then go through two sorting processes, by hand, before being vinified in seperate batches according to the vineyard plot they came from. The wine spends 18 months in oak prior to bottling and half the barrels are brand new each year.

Taittinger's Comtes de Champagne is a rare treat and only made in the finest vintages from 100% Chardonnay from 5 of the greatest Grand Cru vineyards in Champagne. 2011 was a particularly good vintage for Chardonnay, marked by its early ripening and drought conditions which forced the vines to delve deep in search of water for growth.

2014 brunello di montalcino pieve restituta, gaja
Sangiovese
The property's entire 40 acres have been dedicated to Sangiovese, the most well-known of the indigenous Italian grape varieties. The grapes from the different vineyards are fermented and macerated separately for three weeks. They are then aged in oak for 24 months before being blended and then aged for another six months in concrete vats.

Bordeaux Blend
The 2014 vintage of this 'under the radar' Chateau is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Chateau Saint-Pierre is the smallest classed growth in Saint Julien but has a growing reputation for producing excellent, deeply coloured reds. It is part of the Chateau Gloria stable and often eclipses it's more illustrious stablemate in blind tastings. Prices are creeping up as their reputation grows but these beautifully made wines still represent good value.

This terrific red comes from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Valtellina Superiore area in the districts of Berbenno, Sondrio, Montagna e Teglio, between 350 and 500 metres above sea level. The best quality grapes are dried for 2 months in the “fruttaio”, a ventilated area on the top floor of the CasaClima Wine cellar.

This is a luscious, ethereal red based on Corvina and shows a wealth of silky red fruits, raisined undertones and perfect balance - pure class! Hand harvested in October, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and then spends 4 years in oak resting on the Amarone marc, giving a wonderful depth and concentration.

Red Blend
The 2016 vintage of Musar is a deep ruby in colour with high viscosity. Red cherries, plums, carob and figs dominate the nose with a hint of eastern spice. Kirsch and plums follow through to the palate with blackcurrant and chocolate. The tannins are velvety soft and this wine has a lot of depth and fruit concentration with a long finish.

The 2016 Rioja Blanco Las Planas, Real Agrado is a pale golden colour, with the aromas of aniseed tinged oak, balsamic and honey notes. The palate is complex with flavours of peach compote and silky oak notes courtesy of 24 months in a mixture of American and French oak. The velvety palate is soft yet retains plenty of freshness with a fine, elegant and very long finish.

2017 pouilly fume ‘les demoiselles’, domaine henri bourgeois
Sauvignon Blanc
The wines from Domaine Henri Bourgeois display the complex chalky and flinty terroir of Chavignol and are a delight once they take on a bit of bottle age. The 'Les Demoiselles' is made from select Sauvignon grapes from Saint-Laurent, the site of the first vines planted in Pouilly-Fume. 85% is fermented in stainless steel with the remainder fermented in oak from the Troncais forest. Aged on fine lees for seven months, this classy wine is losing some of it's up front,classic Sauvignon fruit and showing it's complex, woody notes with quince and pear fruit and an underlying flintiness.

Barbaresco DOCG is produced every year from the 100 hectares of vineyards controlled by the Produttori within the appellation, mainly in the Barbaresco village itself. A well-integrated orchard fruit acidity. Confected apple, some creaminess and great texture. A lovely salinity and citrus balances well. Some light brioche and almond notes too.

The 2018 Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Cabernet spent 16 months in a mixture of French and Eastern European oak, 26% of which was new. The wine is a wonderful dark garnet in the glass. The enticing nose has plenty of aromatic intensity making it irresistible, with fresh berries and dried cherries combining with bergamot, lavender, mint and sage in perfect harmony.

The Clos le Comte is a tiny, organically farmed vineyard that produces wonderfully elegant Sauternes. The grapes are harvested after several passages through the vineyard ensuring that only the very ripest grapes are selected. Wonderfully ripe, concentrated and complex fruit aromas. The rich bouquet shows notes of dried fruits, almonds, apricots, fresh citrus and peach blossom. Well structured on the palate with a viscous density resulting from the high levels of botrytis. Beautiful acidity gives excellent lively freshness to the spicy notes on the long finish.

Gilles Remoriquet is forever looking for ways to improve the wines from his 12.5 hectare sustainably farmed domaine, whether that means a dedicated trip the Jura to see a specialist about selecting the right blend of manure, or investing in a second sorting table which eliminates under-ripe berries by flotation, he is not one to rest on his laurels. Cuvaisons in concrete vats are long, giving a light colour yet concentrated yet elegant fruit flavours. Wines are fermented with natural yeasts and never see more than 30% new oak, allowing the fruit to shine through.
