Lebanon
The story of the Lebanese wine industry is fascinating and is one of triumph in the face of adversity. At the eastern end of the Mediterranean, bordered by Syria to the north and east, and Israel to the south, Lebanon is similar in size to Wales. The Bekaa Valley is flanked by two mountain ranges and enjoys favourable geographic and climactic conditions for the production of grapes. Further south than any part of Spain or Italy the region enjoys abundant sunshine during summer allowing the grapes to ripen fully whilst the 1000m altitude provides cool nights to promote even ripeness. Chateau Musar is the most prominent producer in the region and has paved the way for plenty of other wineries to grow and flourish. The most prominent red grape varieties grown in Lebanon are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan whilst the whites can be made from a wide range of grapes such as Chardonnay, Semillon, Vermentino and Viognier, amongst others. Critically acclaimed and unique, the wines of Lebanon are definitely worth exploring.

Cinsault
Massaya is run by brothers Sami and Ramzi Ghosn in partnership with Frédéric and Daniel Brunier from Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe and Dominique Hebrard, formerly from Château Cheval Blanc. Until recently Massaya’s vineyards have solely been located in the fertile Bekaa Valley, at an altitude of 1000 metres above sea level.
