Italy

Italy has the most diverse array of vineyards, wine styles and grape varieties of any wine growing country in the world.
From the cool, alpine influenced regions such as Alto Adige and Piedmont in the north, down through Tuscany, Umbria and the Marche right through to the sun baked vineyards of Puglia and Sicily, there really is something for every discernible wine drinker to enjoy.  It’s difficult to travel anywhere in the country without coming across a local wine.  Sangiovese is king, and forms the backbone of Tuscanys famous Chianti, Brunello and Montepulciano.  Further north in Piedmont, Nebbiolo is prized for producing red wines that balance power, elegance and longevity whilst the complex, concentrated wines of Alto Adige and Friuli rank amongst some of the best white wines in the world.  In the hot, arid south, Primitivo (Zinfandel) and Negroamaro reign supreme whilst the beguiling red and white wines from the slopes of Mount Etna can be simply stunning.
If we had to choose just one country to drink wines from it would have to be Italy for it’s sheer diversity.  (And we haven’t even mentioned Italy’s most famous vinuous exports of Prosecco or Pinot Grigio).  If you’re unfamiliar with Italian wines, our advice would be to grab a cork screw and get stuck in!
